Curie Environmental Services announced today the introduction of CuriePacksm, a pioneering concept for mail-back programs designed to recycle smoke alarms/detectors.  The CuriePacksm is typically a 5-gallon pail designed for smaller commercial interests and Household Hazardous Waste collection programs.  For larger quantities, traditional route-based collection is possible. The California DTSC confirms to Curie Environmental Services that smoke alarms/detectors are considered Universal Waste Electronic Devices (UWED) due to the presence of the printed circuit board and cannot be disposed of in the trash.  For more information and a copy of the written correspondence between DTSC and Curie please contact us.
