Curie Environmental Services, LLC (Curie) was founded in September 2010 with headquarters in Albuquerque, NM. The company focus of Curie is to provide recycling for radioactive materials in North America and internationally that would otherwise be disposed. This focus has led to the development of CuriePackSM, which is the first in the nation mail back program for ionizing smoke alarms. Mail back programs for other recyclable radioactive material have also been developed by Curie which are unique in the industry. These kits include a mail back kit called SourcePacksm to facilitate uranium/thorium chemical compound recycling, as well as, mail back kits for the recycling of tritium exit signs, tritium self-luminous consumer articles and selected sealed sources.
Radioactive materials that do not have a recycling path are processed for treatment and disposal. Curie also performs radiological services such as nuclear gauge removal, surveys, packaging, sampling, decontamination and radioactive material identification/characterization.
Curie maintains a specific radioactive materials license (RS500-03) issued by the State of New Mexico Environment Department Radiation Control Bureau. This license was specifically crafted to enable a wide range of radioactive materials that may be accepted at the Curie facility. Additional capabilities in the license allow Curie to perform off-site radiological services at customer facilities and temporary job sites. To facilitate radioactive materials recycling for our customers outside the United States, Curie maintains a 10 CFR Part 110 Nuclear Regulatory Commission general license for import and export.
