About Us

Curie Environmental Services is headquartered in Albuquerque, NM, specializing in recycling radioactive materials using a unique mail-back program for ionizing smoke alarms, exit signs, and other recyclable materials. Curie also provides radiological services such as nuclear gauge removal, surveys, packaging, sampling, decontamination, and radioactive material identification.

Founded in 2010 by Scott and Christie Logan, Curie became the first company in the US to offer a recycling program for Am-241 containing smoke alarms for residential and commercial properties.

In April 2024, Curie Environmental Services was acquired by Tradebe Environmental Services, an international leader focused on recycling, energy recovery, and propelling a circular economy. Tradebe USA operates multiple RCRA Part B TSDF’s, a Type I Industrial Solid Waste Landfill, an oil recycling facility, and regional service centers.

Oriol Mateu, CEO of Tradebe Environmental Services US, emphasized the strategic significance of acquiring Curie: “This integration represents a significant advancement in our commitment to providing sustainable services. With a shared dedication to environmental stewardship and innovative solutions, this acquisition expands our service portfolio and strengthens our presence in the Western US. We are eager to leverage the expertise of the Curie team to enhance our offerings and deliver exceptional service, furthering our commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.”

Curie Environmental Services Mail-Back Programs: Curie offers four unique Mail-Back Kits for recycling different radioactive materials that would otherwise be disposed of. The most prominent kit is CuriePackSM, which is the nation’s first program for ionizing smoke alarms. Another kit offered is SourcePackSM, which facilitates uranium/thorium chemical compound recycling. Additional Mail-Back Kits are available for the recycling of tritium exit signs, tritium self-luminous consumer articles, and selected sealed sources.

Curie maintains a specific radioactive materials license (RS500) issued by the State of New Mexico Environment Department Radiation Control Bureau. This license was specifically crafted to enable a wide range of radioactive materials that may be accepted at the Curie facility. Additional capabilities in the license allow Curie to perform off-site radiological services at customer facilities and temporary job sites. To facilitate radioactive materials recycling for our customers outside the United States, Curie maintains a 10 CFR Part 110 Nuclear Regulatory Commission general license for import and export.
